Caterpillar Cake

This cake is simple to bake and the sky is the limit for variations!
I baked a regular yellow cake from a mix in a tube pan. (You could also use a bundt pan to give it more shape) Bake according to the package directions.
Once the cake is completely cool, cut the cake into three equal sections.
Place the sections together in a squiggly shape. I also frosted the sections to make them stay together. I used a cupcake set on it’s side, for the face. You will need some kind of long serving tray (I used a cookie sheet covered in foil).
Frost the entire cake with desired “caterpillar color” homemade buttercream frosting.
The main personality of the caterpillar comes from the face, so I made sure it had a happy expression. My son loves M & Ms so I used them all over the body of the cake.
The eyes were made of two large gumdrops with an M & M glued on with frosting. The mouth was also made with pieces of gumdrop. The nose was an M & M.
The antennae and hair were made with twizzlers. Just separate the strands in long pieces. I tied a knot in the end of it for a cute twist on the antennae.
The stripes were created with toasted coconut and careful application of sprinkles. It is a very fun cake to make and loved by kids!
