Cupcake Jack O Lantern Cake

Cupcake Jack O Lantern Cake

We decided this year for my sons class party at school to make a bunch of cupcakes and then decorate them to look as if they were one big cake, like the bakeries seem to be doing now a days. It turned out really cute and honestly it turned out to be a whole lot easier than I had originally expected.

We made 2 large batches of white cupcakes. After they cooled, we placed them all together in the shape of a pumpkin, stem and all.

We frosted the center of what would be the pumpkin in a light orange frosting that we made simply by mixing yellow and red food coloring with your basic white frosting. After that we took our basic white frosting and frosted the top two cupcakes that were being used as the stem a nice what color, then added green sprinkles to them to make them appear to look like the stem of an actual pumpkin.

Then we decided it needed to look a bit more Halloween like, so took 2 Oreo cookies; which my son just loves and used them for the eyes turning our now Pumpkin “cake” made up of cupcakes into a Jack o Lantern. To make the mouth on the Jack o Lantern we simply used black cake coloring jell, and filled in a big half moon shaped smile.

After the jell set, we added a few “teeth” to our Jack o Lantern using simple white candies. The cake turned out all too cute and of course the kids in my sons class just adored it. In fact his teacher even asked how we did it as she wanted to remember this for parties and years to come.
