Pixar’s CARS Cake

This is a CARS birthday cake that I made for my son on his 3rd birthday party. We decided, well, he pretty much decided that we’re going to have a CARS themed birthday party because he was such a big fan and would always watch the movie. I figured that the best thing for him would be to have Lightening McQueen cake and since I really couldn’t find anyone local to do it, I had to do it myself.

What I did was take a regular 9×11 cake and then cut it down lengthways and then use one half for the base and cut up the other half for parts, literally, lol. We finished it up with some frosting that I dyed and all the little touches to the cake. I think that for the most part, it turned out great. He loved it and everyone complimented me on it. We also had another cake because I knew that half of an 9×11 wouldn’t be large enough for all the people. I have to say that some tips I figured out by using this is to make sure you have a bunch of toothpicks handy. I know they’re good for checking cakes, but they’re also amazing for little touches that you’re going to need to make on the details.
