Polar Bear Pride

This was the fifth birthday for our daughter. We had done the stereotypical already Elmo, Barbie and a store bought cake for her birthday.
When we asked her what she wanted for her fifth birthday she threw us a challenge we were not ready for. A polar bear. At first thought we did not have a clue. Shaped pans were extremely expensive for a single use.
Then a friend suggested eBay! The cake pan suddenly became affordable. We found a cute pan available for seven dollars by the time we paid for shipping. This beat anything we could find in the stores. The cake itself is a simple white cake mix. Frosting was homemade with a little extra powdered sugar and water in the frosting. That was the only way we could get a white for the fur that closely matched the translucence of polar bear fur. (trust me our daughter would know the difference)
Features are done with simple chocolate chips. The cake tasted and looked great! The only suggestion I would make is if you are cutting the frosting that thin as we did you should be aware it will harden quickly. It was still good with ice cream but by it self would have become a little crunchy.
It was a fun cake for a fun birthday!
