Hawaiian Luau Cake
Roasted Pig Hawaiin Luau Birthday Cake
This luau cake was the grand finale dessert for a luau-themed birthday party. The Roasted Pig Luau cake was actually, really easy to make!
First, get a white cake mix (or any flavor, but white went best with the strawberry icing that we used to frost it). Follow directions and bake half of the mix in a 9″ round cake pan and the other half in a 8″x8″ square baking pan.
When cool, place the round piece on a cake stand. Cut the rectangular piece in half diagonally, so you end up with two triangles. Position those at the top to look like ears.
Frost the head and ears with strawberry icing, or any kind of pink icing– even white icing that you’ve added food coloring to.
Take a cupcake (can be purchased separately or baked from a small portion of the cake batter) and frost with the icing. Place in middle of round cake to look like snout.
Using a small tube of black decorator icing, draw in the features such as eyes, lines on the ears and nostrils on top of the cupcake snout.
Cut an apple in half and place below the cupcake snout to be the mouth (roasted pigs always have an apple in their mouth).
Lastly, carefully slide pieces of romaine lettuce under the cake and all around the cake platter to make it look like you are serving the pig on a bed of lettuce.
Stick in some birthday candles and enjoy!
